Put sixty upper elementary students up on a stage singing, dancing, and narrating their hearts out. Add a handful of severely disabled children with their teachers, aides, fifth-grade buddies, and tambourines. Mix in songs like “We Shall Overcome” and “This Little Light of Mine,” top it with special tributes to Dr. Martin Luther King and others who gave their lives in the fight for civil rights, and garnish with rapt kindergarteners and a seeing-eye dog in training in the audience. I promise, you won’t stand a chance.
Please pass the kleenex.
